Wan Ki Li's Innovative Design: The Infinity of Imagination

Transforming Mental Disability into a Game of Imagination

Wan Ki Li's award-winning design, The Infinity of Imagination, challenges societal attitudes towards mental disabilities, offering a unique, accessible environment that allows individuals to live freely in their imaginative world.

Wan Ki Li, a promising interior design student, has created a design that questions the general public's attitude towards mental disabilities. His project, The Infinity of Imagination, is a mentally accessible environment tailored to fit specific scenarios, allowing individuals with mental disabilities to live in their imaginative world. This innovative design treats their disorder as a game, enabling them to enjoy their own lifestyle without limitations.

The design's unique properties lie in its approach to mental disabilities. Instead of forcing individuals to conform to a typical lifestyle, it provides an environment that caters to their specific needs and scenarios. The design transforms potentially harmful behaviors into a game, allowing these individuals to enjoy their lifestyle without causing disturbance to the community.

To realize this design, Wan Ki Li studied human proportions and energy input. He considered factors such as bouncing height and rebound frequency to ensure the system's functionality. The design also includes a machine that is motivated by different movements, making running the most efficient way to operate the system.

The design's technical specifications include various points, each with its unique dimensions and purpose. These include The Endless Loop, The Off Gravity World, The Vertical Trade, The Private Power Station, The Mystic Room, and The Vertical Numeral Game. Each point is designed to cater to the specific needs and behaviors of individuals with mental disabilities.

Despite the challenges of addressing a controversial issue like mental illness through design, Wan Ki Li successfully identified the needs of individuals with mental disabilities and developed an appropriate design strategy. His main focus was to eliminate the differences between individuals with and without mental disabilities and to reduce the impact on the community.

The Infinity of Imagination project started in September 2017 and finished in April 2018. It was designed for individuals with mental disabilities, with Hong Kong as the basis for the design study. The project was awarded Silver in A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2019, a testament to its innovative approach and technical excellence.
